GET AWAY FROM IT ALL

Below is a photo taken while on my latest retreat to a remote location in South central B.C., Canada. I can't stress enough, my friends, the importance of removing yourself from the distractions of the city and the influence of people at least once a year for a week or more. We become locked into our routine, bound by commitments, a slave to our schedules.

If possible, one should at least be alone on a weekly basis for a walk or a sit in the park, but I'll chat more about that another time.

For now, It means to impart upon you, the immeasurable benefit from getting as far away from humanity as possible for as long as possible, in order to cleanse oneself of the negative influence imposed upon them by the daily bombardment in today's society.

Getting away from it includes any contact you may have with the outside world and even access to wifi or a cell signal. Your goal, as always, but most especially on retreat, is to return to your pure state. This state can only be reached without distraction.

Leave your profit driven life behind; leave your capitalist brainwashing behind; leave your need to do all your chores and errands behind, your need to look a certain way to fit in, to act the way they tell you. Leave behind your need to keep your car spotless, to wear make-up and jewelry, to work out like an crazy person.

Getting away from it all is your opportunity to be natural. To be your true self without being judged including, in many cases if you're in a remote enough location, running around naked in the bush or by the lake. It's very freeing! You should try it!

Getting away from it all doesn't involve 'Doing' anything. In fact, doing nothing is the point. Nothing is the goal. Silence must be embraced, stillness must, once again, become the natural way and racing thoughts must be tamed. Only then will the soil in the garden of the soul be fertile enough for the seeds of rebirth to germinate.

Live now, my friends...

SHED THE ORNAMENTS! YOU'RE NOT A CHRISTMAS TREE!

What does it mean to be an individual? Does it mean we have a personality that is distinct from others? Does it mean we like or dislike things in ways other human beings don't? Does it mean we are separate from others because our 'individuality' means we're 'different' from others? Is it as important as they say to express our 'individuality'; to, in essence, show others how we differ from them? Or perhaps it's to indicate to others whose thoughts about WHO THEY ARE  (expressed as their 'individuality') might be similar to our thoughts about WHO WE ARE (expressed as our 'individuality'), which, in my humble opinion, nullifies the definition of being an individual...

So we're told we should EXPRESS ourselves as individuals. There's nothing 'wrong' with that at all. Besides, in the context of self-discovery, nothing is defined as 'wrong'. There may be habits, misunderstandings, and perceptions that we would like to alter, but to impose empty and false notions of RIGHT and WRONG or GOOD and BAD is making something out of nothing. These notions are ones that we should learn to recognize (as they come to the forefront of our minds) and simply allow to come and go without worry or attention being paid beyond encouraging them to continue along the conveyor-belt of thoughts, so-to-speak.

How do we often choose to identify ourselves as individuals in today's society? By getting a tattoo, by dressing sporty and hip or professional and conservative, by getting our nails or hair styled in a specific way, by wearing various items of jewelery or timepieces, by whitening our teeth, by getting a tan, driving a certain style of car etc.; all the decisions we make about how to project to the world, how we FEEL about and perceive ourselves as well as how we believe displaying a certain number, color, shape, and size of a particular material or combination of materials will be perceived by others.

The reasons we acquire, possess and display material objects is firstly because we can (i.e. we exist at a time and in a place and with circumstances that put us in a position whereby we have access to and are able to afford to buy X, Y or Z) and also because we CHOOSE to (no d'uh, lol). But, most importantly, it is a mechanism for our own safety and protection. In addition, in this capitalist world we live in, for advancement purposes. In many cases, the right combination of adornment can make the difference between SUCCESS and FAILURE (two more words to recognize, deflate and let go, btw). The problem is we're building a lie (or one upon another) about who we really are. This lie or series of lies then becomes our truth. We may not directly lie to others, but we've created a lie that we now believe about ourselves that, itself, becomes the lie that's told to others.

Sure, you're more successful than you might otherwise have been. So you tell yourself. Sure, it feels so good to show off the new ornament you picked up to replace the old one. Of course you 'needed' the designer brand. You 'deserve' to 'treat yourself'. Even if it's something you tell yourself you WANTED... The point is you found a way to get what you wanted and are now displaying it for all to see. Don't you see what you've created? A facade. A front. A lie... Trust me, you'll eventually get to the point you can't stand this 'self' any longer...

Now, all you want to do is to find out who is behind the curtain you've drawn across the real you, who is under the veils, who is under all the layers of LIES you've told and believe about who you really are. Year after year since innocence was lost, since you felt the only way to keep yourSELF safe in this hostile and dangerous world was to hide behind a mask that you now find impossible to remove and has now become like a walled prison.

These things do not define you, are not you and have no place in who you really are. The process begins with removing all of it. First, by removing it from your body to an out of sight location such as a storage box and then by putting it somewhere out of sight like the attic or a storage facility (that you will one day empty of it's contents and stop wasting money on). I know it will feel weird at first to walk around not adorned with your pretty stuff, but hopefully a sense of freedom will creep in as well, as if the weight of feeling like you need to project a false self is slowly being lifted. Beyond this, once you've been able to go out in public for a while and not feel judged, you might even consider giving away some of that booty to someone less fortunate.

It's this process of pairing down that will create a tremendous feeling of levity to the point that it will snowball to all areas of your life. If you can give up wearing the diamond encrusted jewels, you may end up giving up all sorts of things. Removing layer after layer of masks will soon become your habit, so what's to say removing habit after habit can't be as simple.

Personally, by the time I had really gotten underway in the destruction of my facade, not only had I removed cool sunglasses, watches worth thousands, gold rings, necklaces, earrings, and more from my body, but I proceeded to give it all away in bags that I would hand to people in passing. I gave away dozens of suits, shirts, shoes, jackets and piles of other expensive items that I threw in the trunk of my car and simply opened in less fortunate areas of town. I gave away my set of golf clubs and took a box filled with high end sports gear to a school in an underprivileged neighborhood. The giving up extended to cigarettes and alcohol, cable television and movies, sports and competition and even sex.

Now, I'm not suggesting what you might think I might be suggesting... (or am i, lol?) that the answer to all your problems is by permanently quitting everything that you enjoy, everything that defines you, everything that makes you an individual. But what I am saying is that perhaps you are under the mistaken impression that these things you have acquired (both habits and material things) have become someone you believe is who you Truly are.

The only way to uncover that true you from the prison you've created, is by removing this false self and it's associated masks. You don't need to give up these things all at once or for any significant length of time, as in the case of habits, to feel the sheer weight lifted from not being burdened by all this stuff or these urges. The surprising thing to come from getting rid of all of it is what replaces the habits or fills up the space (in you, with you if that makes sense) that was created when everything was removed. New habits and interests will emerge as well as ways of thinking you never though possible, seeing things you never saw before, and more.

The main thing to remember is that this is all you. It's on you to do it and it's you who shall reap the rewards from what you have sewn which will extend to everything and everyone. The water may have become a bit cloudy and turbulent over the years, but our task from this point forward is to make it crystal clear and still like the surface of a mirror.

Your Homework: Without having showered and wearing no hat to cover bed-head, go to a public place wearing what you normally wear at home behind closed doors; weather it's throwing a jacket over a pair of pj's to grab milk at the store or wearing those grubby, smelly work clothes for a walk through the mall. Notice how many or how few people point and laugh at you or even care. The advanced part of this exercise involves not brushing your teeth or putting on deodorant (c'mon, smell it up right!) before going out; again noticing just how few people care what you look like or even smell like...

PS If you care about your 'social standing' or your 'reputation' being affected by doing these exercises, then this is not the blog for you nor the right time for you to be on this particular path.

TO TRULY KNOW THYSELF IS DIVINE

What is it to know oneself? Can we truly ever know ourselves on the most deepest of levels in this hustle and bustle world? How can it be maintained? Is it possible to achieve enlightenment growing up and existing within the Matrix we inhabit? How is it possible when we are immersed in a paradigm that is seemingly the opposite of spirituality, the opposite of loving kindness and compassion.

I would submit, my friends, that it is possible to achieve a heightened state of clarity, i.e. enlightenment within an urban environment, but that it is a fickle achievement subject to numerous pitfalls for one not fully committed to it's attainment. For, in order to maintain such a pristine state of awareness from moment to moment would require one to become a Master of focused concentration, not easily distracted by the wants and needs of this world nor swayed by the various emotions we're subject to each day.

Living in an enlightened state from moment to moment does not require one to rid oneself of naturally occurring thoughts, feelings and emotions. So from this moment forward, stop guilting yourself for feeling feelings or thinking thoughts. They are natural. It's the ACTIONS we choose to take that are destructive. The challenge for anyone from a Monk to a Manager or a Priest to a Painter is to become a Master at PACIFYING those naturally occurring processes all the time.

I can think all I want about how I'd like to punch someone in the face, but until I actually act on it, it's simply a passing thing without substance that I can choose to bring into the material world or not. In the hands of someone with the clarity of self awareness, those thoughts, feelings and emotions are simply understood as naturally appearing and disappearing and are allowed to come and go without disturbing one's balance.

The only question one must pose oneself when deciding to embark on a journey of self-discovery is this:

Am I committed to a path that only leads in one direction?

The path of which I am referring does not involve 'quitting' anything, for how can one quit something that simply no longer has a place in one's life? It does not involve setting goals, for the path itself is the goal. It won't make you sexier or smarter or funnier and it certainly won't get you that new car, girl, guy, jewelery, house, or whatever else you've been drooling over. In fact, none of the THINGS sitting in your closet, garage, storage locker etc. that you've been accumulating for whatever reason over the years are coming on the journey. Because this journey is one of DEVOLVING, if you will. Of pairing down, of trimming the fat (literally), and of opening the window to let a little fresh air in.

If the thought that you will end up with nothing of material value in your possession with only the promise of the immaterial makes you cringe, then perhaps the time is not right to embark on such a perilous quest. As an example, a friend of mine once suggested I read a book by a well-known modern day spiritual guru to many, Eckhart Tolle. Although I've now read many of his writings, at first glance, even the word 'God' caused me to close the book immediately. I just wasn't ready for years after that...

One must first come to understand that in order for people to define something indefinable, a word must be used so that all are in agreement based on how each of us defines the feeling we get when we say it or think it. A feeling is like a relationship. None but the subject can truly define how something invisible and intangible affects them. So the WORD God is also, in and of itself, indefinable by none but the definer. IT is simply an idea, an allegory, a metaphor or what-have-you. (Maybe we should change God's name every once in a while so people don't become attached to it...) Anyhow, the specifics of that word will be discussed more another time.

Okay, so... Ask yourself if you're ready. Nobody needs to know but you... If you are, then let's proceed, shall we?

First things first. Let me ask you this. How do you feel about God? Don't tell me. I know your first impulse was to tell me in words how you feel, but don't tell me. Don't even direct your answer at me. I asked you how you feel about God, not to tell me how you feel about God. So take a moment...take two, in fact, and really think about...oops sorry, my mistake...take a moment or two to really FEEL how you feel about God.... Wanna know a secret? That's your connection to God... And that's all you need to know, oops...feel.

Bruce Lee said it best in one of his films, "Don't think, feeeel."

Your homework assignment: Leave your phone at home and go for a walk alone to a safe place. Sit and listen to as many different sounds as you can without adding any judgement to them. Even if you hear a sound that would normally cause a reaction i.e. loud motorcycles, construction, vocal babies etc., try practicing observing things in their basics rather than with added emotion and judgement.

For an added boost to this exercise, try switching to a focus on your breathing (don't worry, we're not getting into breathing exercises...yet ;0) and notice what different sounds you hear or how many sounds you now become aware of.

Oh, and although it might sound silly suggesting closing your eyes is advanced, but you'd be surprised how difficult it can be to try sitting in a public park or city street with your eyes closed for any length of time without feeling like you'll be robbed. A very uneasy feeling comes over us in a very short period of time that both prevents us from relaxing and closing our eyes for too long. This might seem minor, but know that any resistance to this process must be looked at from this point forward as ego based. When they refer to interacting with the drug and not the person in cases of addiction, this is that situation when it comes to uncovering your true self. The child who wants it's blankie is what restricts your spiritual emergence.

ACCEPT there is resistance to change that comes from a part of us we can't explain and move on... I really dislike corporations for stealing great sayings, but it's so true. The only way for you to make change is to just do it. Btw, I didn't mention the corporation on purpose and didn't cap their slogan, but if you instantly knew who I was referring to and saw a logo in your mind's eye (you know, that place in our head where we see the mind movies), then you've come to the right place...

See you next time.

10 LEVELS OF CONSCIOUSNESS

I found this and thought I'd share:

Ten Levels of Consciousness

Credit goes to Marriah Star:)

There are 10 levels of consciousness between identifying with (internalizing) your environment or choosing to transform from within by heart.
At the first level of consciousness you identify completely with your environment whether rich or poor, peaceful or warlike, cruel or loving
At the 1st level of consciousness you accept your social and physical environments as they are: You internalize their values and become them
At 1st level of consciousness if you are wealthy you define yourself in terms of your salary, your net worth, your property and rich friends
At 1st level of consciousness, if you are poor you accept that you’ll always be poor. You believe all efforts to become successful will fail
At the 1st level of consciousness, if you live in a peaceful environment you believe that everyone you know lives among peace and prosperity
At the first level of consciousness, if you live in a war zone, you believe you must constantly fight other people for survival or else die!
At the 1st level of consciousness, if you grow up with parents who physically, sexually, and emotionally abuse you, you in turn abuse others
At 1st level of consciousness if you grow up with parents/friends who give you love, support, and affection, you give lots of love to others
At 1st level of consciousness you have no original thoughts or creativity inside you because you are a complete reflection of your community
At first level of consciousness you cannot adapt to changing environments that operate under different principles. Thus, you become limited!
At first level of consciousness you think dreamers and idealists, advocates and change-makers, are fools who have lost their grip on reality
You make your transition from the 1st level of consciousness to the second level of consciousness when you become disillusioned with reality
You begin to enter the second level of consciousness when you realize that the physical and social reality you have internalized is not real
When you enter 2nd level of consciousness you’re surprised by your attraction to being alone so you can think instead of being around people
At the 2nd level of consciousness you identify with your physical environment 90% and become aware that you have an internal environment too
At 2nd level of consciousness you define yourself by your family, your friends, your job, and your property, but you glimpse your creativity
At 2nd level of consciousness you are surprised by the fact that money and shopping no longer make you happy but that giving now thrills you
At 2nd level of consciousness you find yourself attracted to books about people instead of books about things: You want to learn about Self!
At the second level of consciousness you are shocked to realize that if you lose your job today and the money that goes with it, that is OK!
At the second level of consciousness you find yourself wanting to listen to a greater variety of people than just always talk about your job
At the second level of consciousness you begin to realize that a big house is just an empty home, lots of awards are just meaningless titles
At the second level of consciousness you realize that sex is not love, money and power are not influence, your job is not who you REALLY are
At the second level of consciousness you face a choice: Abandon your temporary physical and social illusions, or transform them from within!
When people reach the 2nd level of consciousness some of them quit their jobs, sell their houses, divorce their spouses, go search for Truth
When people reach the 2nd level of consciousness, some of them embrace their current physical reality and place it on spiritual foundations!
You make the transition from the 2nd level of consciousness to the 3rd level when you decide to take time to develop your mind and heart now
At 3rd level of consciousness you identify with your physical environment 80% and start to feel and think for yourself, creating your heart!
At third level of consciousness you become very sensitive to the energies in your body, your heart and your mind. You start cultivating them
At 3rd level of consciousness you allow yourself to cry, feel joy, experience pain, entertain strange thoughts, and see all of life’s beauty
At the third level of consciousness you start developing your artistic sensibilities, your empathy, and your need for spiritual connections!
At the third level of consciousness you begin to put your time and energy into exploring the different sensations of life: You eat and think
At the third level of consciousness you start to explore your physical appetites, your sexual energies, your creativity, and your intuitions
At the 3rd level of consciousness you can sense when people are happy and sad: You can console them and relate to them through communication
At the 3rd level of consciousness you shift from being merely a colleague at work and a neighbor to being a true friend when people need you
At 3rd level of consciousness you shift from being a well-trained employee, living in your mind, to being a human being living in the heart!
At the 3rd level of consciousness you stop reacting to people and events around you. Instead you start acting based on your values and ideas
You make the transition from the 3rd level of consciousness to the 4th level of consciousness when you begin to see that you influence life!
You make the transition to the 4th level of consciousness when you realize that training crushes your personality. You develop unique gifts!
At the 4th level of consciousness you identify with your environment 70% and start focusing more on your unique Spirit, changing who you are
At the fourth level of consciousness you decide what kind of person you want to be regardless of the kind of person you have been or are now
At fourth level of consciousness you decide what your lifestyle will be, what kind of friends you will have, and what resources you will use
At fourth level of consciousness you change your thoughts and emotions to match who you want to be: You practice being mindful and attentive
At the fourth level of consciousness you realize that each second of consciousness counts because every thought you have defines who you are
At the 4th level of consciousness you systematically examine your own thoughts, emphasizing those that are healthy and eliminating the rest!
At the 4th level of consciousness you examine your emotions, feeling in full those that give you joy and eliminating those that make you sad
At the 4th level of consciousness you feel your body, choosing to eat only foods that make you healthy, eliminating the rest from your diet!
At the 4th level of consciousness you look at your daily routines: You keep the routines that make you happy and change routines that don’t!
At 4th level of consciousness you study your habits: Keep habits that are good and remove bad habits from your life to avoid self-judgments!
You make the transition from the 4th level of consciousness to the 5th level of consciousness by discovering your spiritual self within you!
You enter the 5th level of consciousness when you successfully maintain your health + balance. You now have abundant love, energy and ideas!
At the 5th level of consciousness you identify with your physical environment 60% and start spending more time with your true spiritual self
At 5th level of consciousness you’ve entered the 5th dimension: You have expanded from point, to line, to object, to being in time, to being
At the 5th level of consciousness you stop living for other people and you start living for yourself: You offer service based on your spirit
At 5th level of consciousness we spend most of our leisure time meditating, praying, singing, composing, loving, caring, rejoicing, thanking
At 5th level of consciousness you choose to live instead of forcing yourself to live. If you have a job you have a renewed sense of purpose!
At the 5th level of consciousness you make compromises with people so that you can be your true, Higher Self more and your other selves less
At the 5th level of consciousness you stop taking every job that will make you money and start taking only jobs that match your spirituality
At the 5th level of consciousness you apply your abundant love and energy to making a concrete difference in other people’s lives every day!
At the 5th level of consciousness you generate ideas for turning your spiritual being into physical changes and your love into relationships
At the 5th level of consciousness you get your greatest joys from being around people who enhance your loving energy and natural creativity!
At the 5th level of consciousness you dig into yourself deeply in a never-ending quest to know your true, Higher Self, then manifest reality
You make transition from 5th level of consciousness to 6th level when all physical reality starts running parallel to your spiritual reality
You enter the 6th level of consciousness when you put all of your energies into spiritual development and physical realities derive from you
At the 6th level of consciousness you identify with your physical environment 50% and start living a double life, in the world but not of it
At 6th level of consciousness you are in the world, not of it: You show people the physical realities they know, not the true spirit inside!
At 6th level of consciousness you are bridging between spirituality and physical realities: You are a dual ambassador, a great double-agent!
At 6th level of consciousness you are constantly translating between spirituality and various social and physical realities, creating fusion
At the 6th level of consciousness you spend half the time physically manifesting inspiration, and half the time interpreting spiritual signs
At 6th level of consciousness you are a person of many masks, many social roles and identities, but only one true, Higher Self: YOU ARE LOVE
At the 6th level of consciousness you play many games, you learn the rules of systems, and you adapt to each one so that spirit lives in you
At the 6th level of consciousness you identify the right time, the right place, and the right person to receive a spiritual message from you
At the 6th level of consciousness you meditate while working so that you can mediate people’s conflicts and help humanity move toward Heaven
At the 6th level of consciousness you have parallel thoughts in your mind, parallel emotions in your heart, because you are a spirit bridge!
You make transition from 6th level of consciousness to 7th level when you are no longer a spiritual bridge because everyone is now spiritual

At the 8th level of consciousness you are a servant of Spirit: You use material resources as needed to serve the purpose of awakening others
At the 8th level of consciousness you sense the spiritual needs of each energy in your environment: Their energies enter you, you enter them
You make transition from 8th to 9th level of consciousness when your thoughts and feelings become so strong that they transform every person
You enter the 9th level of consciousness when you walk into rooms and everyone instantly feels pure love, changing their feelings and being!
At 9th level of consciousness you identify with your physical environment 20%. You are becoming pure energy within and you transform others!
At 9th level of consciousness you transform people you meet and communicate with, improving their lives by raising their spiritual awareness

At the 9th level of consciousness your mind, heart, body, spirit, and soul are fused together in a constant state of meditation and praying!
At 9th level of consciousness you no longer see yourself as mind, heart, body, spirit and soul because you are connected with universal love
At 9th level of consciousness you lead social movements, start religions, transform communities, and raise people’s energy levels constantly
At 9th level of consciousness you are a healer, a mystic, a clairvoyant, a psychic, a seer, a prophet, a magician, a fortune teller. Spirit!
At the 9th level of consciousness you generate so much love that people and animals make existence effortless. Work is replaced by pleasure!
At 9th level of consciousness you have millions of “children” from thousands of spiritual partners, people you have inspired with pure love!
At the 9th level of consciousness you spread love, joy, and peace everywhere, creating peaceful communities wherever you go and ending war!
You make transition from 9th to 10th level of consciousness when you no longer have to be in a place for your loving existence to be enjoyed
You enter the 10th level of consciousness when you dream and people’s lives change; you talk and people act; you write and the world changes
At 10th level of consciousness you identify with your physical environment 10%. Your spirit absorbs so much that you feel/act through others
At 10th level of consciousness you can perform seemingly amazing feats of physical and mental activities because love makes you super-human!
At 10th level of consciousness you live in your own spiritual universe: You move and everyone moves with you. You accelerate your evolution!
At the 10th level of consciousness your total being integrates with other people to form a collective spirit: When you act, you act together
At the 10th level of consciousness you communicate with all beings, all energies, on all levels of consciousness simultaneously in pure form
At the 10th level of consciousness your total being absorbs the universe, focusing infinite divine power on all things around you to create!
At the 10th level of consciousness you become God’s magnifying glass: Wherever your attention focuses you spread the fire of inner lightning
At the 10th level of consciousness you are not only a constant enhanced version of yourself, you enhance other people with your loving mind!
At the 10th level of consciousness you project so much energy that the foolish become wise, the poor feel rich, the hungry feel full inside!
At the 10th level of consciousness you can share your love with all sentient beings on Earth, from those in poverty to the rich and powerful
At 10th level of consciousness you become aware of your spiritual mission on Earth: You focus on completing your mission, then transcending!
Once you reach the 10th level of consciousness you can stay connected with the 10% of your physical environment, or you can leave and travel
At the 10th level of consciousness you complete your soul’s purpose for being in physical form. You confront a choice: Leave Earth, or stay?
At 10th level of consciousness, if you decide to leave Earth you enter the 1st level of cosmic being; if you decide to stay you guide Spirit

WHO IS IN CONTROL OF YOU?

Below I've attached a video from a BBC Horizon documentary about the subconscious mind; how much of it is responsible for what we do, what we see with our eyes vs. what our mind 'sees' and how we react to the things of this material experience that send our lives in this direction or that.

There is a definite path to uncovering your subconscious mind and aligning yourself with the seemingly chaotic universe (multiverse) we exist in. This I will tell you from experience, my friend. Once you connect with the sub-text of your life, amazing things will happen.

Please enjoy the documentary:

My question to you, my friend, is this... If we are really driven by our subconscious and are largely unaware of it most of the time, then who or what creates the subconscious urge that manifests itself into a conscious thought and action as a result? Is it really YOUR ACTION that results? Have you ever been watching television and when someone takes a drink on the screen you feel thirsty and reach for a drink yourself?

The trouble with the subconscious is that it's easily influenced through suggestion. The additional problem occurs when the person who's thought naturally becomes the action is not capable of seeing the connection, the origin of the subconscious seed that's been planted. This causes such a person to truly believe the thought is their own and, as such, justifies the action taken as a result.

Most in this society are not capable of seeing the forest for the trees through years of conditioning. Aggressive and manipulative advertising techniques were a part of my life since the day I was born for example...

It takes a shattering of the barriers that have been created in order to make those connections, to clearly see the origin of our potential actions and make decisions based on that understanding. We can always think before we act, but without the understanding of the origin of the urge that leads to the action, we are in a perpetual MINDLESS state as opposed to a MINDFUL STATE.

The next question is, without an external influence on our subconscious, who or what is planting the seeds that ultimately lead to our thoughts and actions? If we have the urge to buy the latest electronic gadget, for example, I'm not sure that seed was planted by the creator. But, I can tell you from experience. Once the hypnotic spell you've been under has been broken, you will find those urges will vanish into thin air. You will have a clearer understanding of the origin of your thoughts and actions by allowing the connection you already have to the creative source to be accepted as fact.

At a certain point in my life, I knew that regardless of what I did along the road to clarity, to awakening, even if it meant the end of this mortal coil, as Shakespeare referred to it, I would make it my intention to have joy and not sorrow at the core of who I am. I then identified every single thing that had at it's end, a sorrowful result such as angry feelings toward myself and others. I set out to understand those feelings, to pacify them and to know those feelings and thoughts as a permanent part of this vessel in which I'm traveling on this journey.

What I discovered in the end was that a joyful existence didn't mean killing some evil part of myself or denying myself anything. It was simply an understanding that nothing is either good or bad, it just is.

WE OURSELVES, through external influence on our subconscious mind, color our perception of this experience. Cut the bonds of that influence and the clouds will part. All the guilt, and pain and suffering, all the anger,  jealousy and more is present due to a lack of understanding. Find the urge at it's source and it's power over you will be no more.

Seek first to understand this mortal and material experience through your five senses. Once that's occurred, other senses already present will naturally reveal themselves to you.

A LOVELY THOUGHT

Here are some wonderful words from a wonderful man who's writings I admire:

"We few who are brought together by providence to work hand in hand for the divine Message,
are entrusted with the most sacred duty
to spread the Message with selflessness and unshakeable trust
in the ever present Spirit of Guidance".
These very important historical statements certainly refer to the responsibility of each,
in as much as one's attunement to the Message is in harmony with the original word,
without drifting away from the Goal.
Years have passed since our Master offered these significant words,
but his luminous presence is as bright as ever before,
shining as a stream of inspiration,
silently guiding our steps,
and helping us to discover the spirit of the Message,
which is gradually shaping human thinking
in the direction of freedom from dogmatic limitations.
On Visalat Day pilgrims from all over the world come to the holy shrine in India,
offering their devotion and gratitude to the bringer of the 'Message in our time',
whose historical proclamation known as the "Unity of Religious ideals"
has so deeply moved the hearts of thousands, over the years.
Each religion strikes a characteristic tone,
and if all would come together,
alike a religious symphony,
one would then encounter the possibility of a unity of all original ideals,
beyond the boundaries of cultural differences.
As one proceeds onward through the darkness of human ignorance,
steadfastly displaying the torch of "Spiritual Liberty"
one may perhaps discover
that Truth could be interpreted as being an invitation
to incorporate the great ideals of Love, Harmony and Beauty,
when communicating with each other
- in each one's language -
and holding fast to the only secret which there is on the spirituality path,
which is to be sincerely in attunement
to the Divine Spirit of Guidance.

ZEITGEIST

I watched the first of the Zeitgeist movies in 2008 shortly following my own awakening. At the time, the film had only been out for a year. Since then, there have been two additional movies released as follow-ups, not to mention a growing movement connected to the recent Occupy Movement associated with the peaceful warriors of Anonymous.

In addition, a new installment has been announced for 2012 called, 'Beyond the Pale'. These movies are free! They are privately funded and available to anyone. To me that's the true measure of altruism and compassion.

This series of movies is like Michael Moore times 1000. Call it what you want, but regardless of being labeled a conspiracy film, it will definitely make you see things differently once you've seen it. The original Zeitgeist is broken up into different parts. It goes into 9/11 theories, facts about the origins of the Christian faith, the facts behind the war in Iraq, the US Federal Reserve and more.

I'd recommend it to you, my friend. Watch it with an open mind and it will make you question your own uninformed opinion of many things. If nothing else, it will make you want to go out and try to prove these theories wrong... If so, make sure this is the start of questioning everything you've simply trusted on the 'NEWS' and in the 'PAPER'...

Here is the original Zeitgeist:

The second installment is a bit more out there with talk and an actual plan by the filmmaker, Jacque Fresco, for a system of living based on his own utopian ideals. His plan makes perfect sense, however, it would require such a radical and complete shift in the way the world really works, that it would take generations starting from now to make it happen. I believe we're too far gone for such a plan to be effective.

Here's the full movie for Zeitgeist, Addendum:

The third installment (2011) goes into the science of brainwashing. It describes to the viewer in stark detail how we as a collective society have been brainwashed in a scientific and psychological way since most of us were born. Again, watch it with an open mind and I guarantee it will change the way you think.

Here's the full version of 'Moving Forward':

For the skeptics (that should be us all) here's someone who's made a film debunking the debunking of the original Zeitgeist in the religious section:

There's films are all over the web on every side you can imagine. The key is to watch as many as possible in order to make your own decisions. The best part? When you've read and watched enough, you'll discover the common theme in all of it. That it's the same thing; us as conscious matter trying to figure out what this all is and what it all means.

The sheer multitude of ways we express those questions is what makes us all one. I tend to think of the multitude of ways we express and reaffirm our connections to the creator like those who are slaves to the pharmaceutical industry, popping one pill after another.

If one particular company that markets a pill had a product that worked, there would be no competition for them because they would have found the definitive cure to that particular disease (dis-ease).

As it stands, there are just as many companies selling pills as there are believers in a particular pill to provide them with a cure. And of those CHEMICAL CONCOCTIONS we're putting our faith in to 'keep us alive', how many of them CURE you?  If they cured you, those companies would no longer exist which goes against the mandate of the very corporations that manufacture the pills you're taking. We'll talk more next time about the black hole of the Medical System...

QUESTION EVERYTHING YOU'VE NOT DISCOVERED YOURSELF THROUGH RESEARCH OF MULTIPLE SOURCES.

BARAKA AND THE QUATSI's

If you haven't see these movies yet, they are a must see for any spiritual traveler. The first is a 1992 movie by Ron Fricke that's a visual and as a result, an emotional journey from start to finish. Here's a brief definition of the word Baraka and it's origin according to Wikipedia:

Barakah

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Islam, Barakah (Arabic: بركة : also Baraka‎) is the beneficent force from God that flows through the physical and spiritual spheres as prosperity, protection, and happiness. Baraka is the continuity of spiritual presence and revelation that begins with God and flows through that and those closest to God. Baraka can be found within physical objects, places, and people, as chosen by God. This force begins by flowing directly from God into creation that is worthy of baraka. These creations endowed with baraka can then transmit the flow of baraka to the other creations of God through physical proximity or through the adherence to the spiritual practices of the Prophet Muhammad. God is the sole source of baraka and has the power to grant and withhold baraka.

Baraka is a prominent concept in Islamic mysticism, particularly Sufism. It pervades Sufi texts, beliefs, practices, and spirituality. Sufism is a movement within Islam that emphasizes the importance of esoteric knowledge and the spiritual union with God through the heart. Baraka symbolizes this connection between the divine and the worldly through God's direct and intentional blessing of those that are most reflective of Him and his teachings.

Baraka is not a state, it is a flow of blessings and grace. It flows from God to those that are closest to God, such as saints and prophets. Those that have received baraka are thought to have the abilities to perform miracles (karamat), such as thought-reading, healing the sick, flying, and reviving the dead. However, according to Abd al-Karīm ibn Hawāzin Qushayri, a prominent Sufi mystic, the use of these miracles and the actual possession of these abilities are not indicative of a saint's status, however, the performance of these miracles by prophets is important to establish credentials.

RUMI

How does one describe the indescribable? Is it even possible to put pure love into words? How do we express our connection to the creative energy that exists in us all? We do so in every good action, in every positive vibration we send outward to the universe. Please enjoy the following from one of my favorites, the Sufi poet Rumi:

Your love lifts my soul from the body to the sky
And you lift me up out of the two worlds.
I want your sun to reach my raindrops,
So your heat can raise my soul upward like a cloud.

Rumi expresses his connection to the creative source by allowing his absolute understanding of that connection to flow through him. How does he do it? By giving up, by giving in, and by giving over all to whatever may come. Love is never present in the absence of the truth... If you have a chance to read a few of his many other works, I'm sure you'll see how Rumi allows that truth to be expressed in each and every syllable.

For all those who express their connection to the creative source in whatever you do. In whatever form you allow the thoughts and ideas birthed within you from the great nothing to flow through you, that is your own personal link to the source. Like the seeds that give way to the apple that produces more seeds that are once again planted to produce more in a never-ending cycle, these thoughts and ideas that come from the light inside you are alive. They have a birth and a death. Only you can decide how long they live. Will you protect your gifts from the creator and allow them to flourish?

Nothing ventured, nothing gained my friend...

KUNDALINI AWARENESS

Below is the article I was referring to in my last post regarding a more scientific explanation of this experience. It's from the Institute for Consciousness Research.
Please enjoy.

Kundalini Awareness

The earth and the universe that surrounds it is filled with a constant supply of beauty and mystery that keeps
the human mind stimulated and challenged. It is this “human mind” that has learned to survive the harsh elements
of Nature, has battled disease and to this point in history survived war. Throughout the centuries it has
been those we call “genius” that have provided the answers to the riddles and problems that have faced the
race. These men and women have shown the way in all aspects of human experience - both secular and
religious. In various ages they have been the great explorers, tribal chiefs, sorcerers, high priests, pharaohs,
artists, musicians, mystics, scientists, doctors and humanitarians. They have lead us to explore the unknown
and respect the ineffable and intangible forces around us. They have enriched our lives with art, music and
literature, provided technological and medical advances to keep us safe and healthy and reminded us of the
need to love and care for each other.
Somehow these individuals were vouchsafed knowledge that was not readily available to their contemporaries or to those that proceeded them. Where humankind would be without
a Christ, Patanjali, Guru Nanak, Buddha, Socrates, Michaelangelo, Bach, Einstein, Newton, Jefferson, St.
Teresa of Avila or Gandhi is impossible to imagine. The “genius” mind has been the conduit through which the
human race has survived and evolved during these past thousands of years. These minds have provided us
with generally accepted theories relating to, among others, biological evolution, physics, chemistry, and theology.
Yet, today with all our knowledge of how the human body functions – including genetic engineering and
organ transplants – there is no generally accepted theory of the evolution of human consciousness nor is there
a basic understanding of consciousness itself.

The appearance of mystics and geniuses throughout history is still not fully explained. The early Greeks
had two views on genius – One view equated it with an act of creativity by God – the major source of an individual’s
genius had its source in a mystical power. Socrates described this power as a “murmuring in his ears
like the sound of the flute in the ears of the mystic”. The other view related genius to insanity – Aristotle believed
that there was “no great genius without madness”.
Studies dating from the late nineteenth century, by Lombroso, Ellis, and others have concentrated on the
observed connection between insanity and genius. In addition, Galton has studied the role played by heredity
in the production of genius. None of these studies have provided adequate explanations for inspiration and
creativity.

Near the beginning of the twentieth century, the Canadian psychiatrist Richard Maurice Bucke treated the
issue of Illumination in both mystics and geniuses from the standpoint of psychology. He suggested that the
human mind was evolving toward a new kind of consciousness – which he called Cosmic Consciousness -
far in advance of ordinary human self-consciousness. Using arguments based upon analogy, Bucke examines
some forty-three “great cases” within the framework of eleven characteristics of the Cosmic Sense.
However he does not identify any somatic basis for his Cosmic Sense.
In more recent times, Gopi Krishna drew from his own personal experience and the ancient esoteric literature
to suggest that the mystic and the genius are products of a more highly evolved brain. He further postulated
that there is a specific psychosomatic power centre – known as Kundalini – in human beings and that
human evolution has proceeded by the action of this mechanism in the human body and brain. Traditionally
Kundalini is held to be responsible for creativity, genius, mystical experience, psychic phenomena and in its
morbid form certain classes of mental illness. If this is indeed the case, then the mystic, the genius and the
psychic should share a set of common characteristics and experiences, which would have to be consistent
with those, attributed to the awakening of Kundalini in the ancient esoteric scriptures.

Furthermore Gopi Krishna, along with Bucke and other visionaries such as Teilhard de Chardin who believed
that human consciousness was evolving, was convinced that we had reached a critical juncture in this
evolution — a time in which many ordinary, everyday people would begin to awaken to this evolutionary process
within themselves. As this awakening occurred, Gopi Krishna maintained, these individuals would begin
to experience varying degrees of spiritual transformation; some might even attain the degree of illumination or
Cosmic Consciousness that marked the lives of the great geniuses and mystics of the past.

Ideally, this ongoing transformation is a slow one, with the changes occurring gradually and virtually imperceptibly
over a long period of time. However, due to a number of factors, including the general speed and
intensity of our lives today, this process of spiritual transformation is occurring extremely rapidly for a number
of people. When this happens, it can cause anything from mild consternation to an almost cataclysmic upheaval
in the life of the person experiencing it.

Gopi Krishna knew this based on his own personal experience. In 1948, after spending three hours in
intensive yoga meditation every day for seventeen years, he experienced a spiritual awakening so abrupt that
it set his life on end for a number of years. Determined to help others avoid similar crises, he spent the rest of
his life researching mystical experience and urging the scientific and medical communities to launch serious
scientific studies on the subject.

Because he was from India and practiced yoga, he naturally presented his case to the Western community
using this philosophy’s terms and symbols. This did not mean he thought that yoga or the experiences of
the yogi were in any way superior. On the contrary, he believed that the profound mystical experiences described
by great saints and mystics of all traditions - whether they called these experiences samadhi, nirvana,
enlightenment or mystical union - were essentially the same.
In yogic terms, such experiences are brought about by what is often called the awakening of kundalini.

Although the word kundalini defies adequate translation, it is sometimes defined as an evolutionary energy/
consciousness force. Kundalini is believed not only to have this crucial role in mystical experience, but to also
be related to other phenomena associated with exceptional states of consciousness including the awakening
of the paranormal abilities — for example the ability to prophesy — and divinely inspired creativity and genius.
In order to put these esoteric Eastern ideas into a conceptual framework that Western science could more
readily study, Gopi Krishna formed what he called the kundalini hypothesis. The first part of this hypothesis
can be paraphrased by saying simply that the force/energy known as kundalini in yoga is responsible for such
phenomena as mystical experience, psychic awakening, and inspired creativity and genius. A second part of
the hypothesis states that, in an aberrant form of awakening, kundalini can also be responsible for, or related
to, some types of mental illness - or what appears to be mental illness.

Although much of Gopi Krishna’s energy was directed towards promoting scientific research based on
the experiences of people who were undergoing this transformative process today he also suggested that a
tremendous amount of insight could be gleaned from scholarly research into the lives of the great mystics and
creative geniuses of the past. If, he argued, kundalini was really responsible for such phenomena as mystical
experience and inspired creativity, we should be able to look at the lives of mystics and creative geniuses and
find signs of an awakened kundalini as it was described in the ancient yogic tradition.

To this end Gopi Krishna provided a list of the characteristics of kundalini awakening. (Interestingly enough,
these traits correspond very closely with what Richard Maurice Bucke called the characteristics of Cosmic
Consciousness.)

Central to the awakening itself, Gopi Krishna explained, is a profound mystical experience that includes an
inexpressible sensation of divine love, bliss, or awe; an unfathomable vision of inner light, fire or flames, and
an overwhelming, all-encompassing awareness of the divine oneness of all things. Depending on a number of
factors, such as lifestyle and heredity, the intensity — or profundity — of this experience can vary. It can also
occur once or many times in an individual’s life, and can be anything from a brief, transitory experience to an
on-going feature of his or her existence. The rare yogi who reaches perennial higher consciousness is said in
some yogic traditions to live in a state known as sahaja-samadhi. In The Encyclopedic Dictionary of Yoga,
Georg Feuerstein describes this level of samadhi as being a state of permanent enlightenment or ‘liberation
while being alive’.

Arising out of the mystical experience itself comes a transformation in the mystic’s consciousness and,
consequently, in the way he or she perceives and responds to the world. The most significant of these changes
is an actual transformation in mental acuity or capacity that — again depending on a number of factors —
might range from paranormal abilities or creative inspiration to the ability to bring new knowledge to the world,
or even ultimately, to receive divine revelation. Thus, just as there are degrees in the mystical experience itself,
the way the transformation manifests in different individuals occurs along a continuum that ranges from the
development of a creative gift or paranormal ability to becoming a saint or, in the rarest cases, one of the great
spiritual masters.

Other traits of the person who has tasted some degree of true mystical experience include an unshakable
belief in the validity of the experience itself and in the reality of a divine cosmic force; the loss of fear of death
and the certainty of the immortality of the soul; the development of both a powerful charisma and a highly moral, ethical nature that is often expressed in a passion for social justice and a deep concern for the suffering of
humanity.

We seemed to be paying more attention to the state of our individual consciousness with the idea of ‘expanding’
or ‘raising’ it to a higher level. In the last few decades of the twentieth century there was a tremendous
upsurge in self -improvement and individual expansion of consciousness. In the West, this was in part brought
about by the ‘street’ availability of mind-altering drugs and hallucinogens as well as a rise in interest in Eastern
esoteric traditions. The goal of expansion of consciousness is of course not new.

Our religious and esoteric traditions attest to the fact that human beings have long sought to expand their
awareness and commune with the ineffable and intangible forces in Nature. But from the 1960’s on it seemed
that more and more of the general population took an active interest in self-development where previously that
interest appeared to be confined to those undertaking strict religious or esoteric practices. Furthermore people
seemed to be reporting more internal experiences that could be classified as mystical or consciousness
expanding in nature.
The currently accepted Western scientific paradigm does not generally allow for the healthy integration of
many of these experiences into an individual’s life. People having these experiences are more than not at a
loss for a reasonable explanation or do not know how or where to find help if they are in crisis. In many cases
they are afraid to confide in family or friends for fear of ridicule, misunderstanding or medical misdiagnosis.
So far we have discussed the experience from a moral, ethical and psychological perspective. But of essential
importance is Gopi Krishna’s assertion that mystical and other “exceptional’ states of consciousness
are somatically anchored in the body, particularly in the brain and nervous system, and that human consciousness
- like the human body was in a state of evolution. He further maintained that the evolutionary process
occurring in the brain and nervous system was essential to the expansion of consciousness, particularly if the
expanded states were to become a permanent feature in an individual’s consciousness.

Recent scientific studies support this contention. In 1980, neurophysiologist Peter Fenwick suggested “that
there exists within the brain, …a system which when activated either naturally or by esoteric practices, or spontaneously, or on the operating table by direct stimulation or by the ictal discharges of epilepsy, can give rise to the mystical experience….What I am saying is that there are structures within the brain which, when stimulated
either “normally” or pathologically, will give rise to the experience.” He concludes that mystical experience
seems to be an emergent property of brain functioning, in part dependent on brain structure and on the
activation of several systems within the brain, specifically the temporal lobe and the mid brain.

Even more recent research has lead many scientists to conclude that the brain is “hard wired” for exceptional
experiences including mystical experience. According to psychologist Daniel Baston “the brain is the
hardwire through which religion is experienced. To say the brain produces religion is like saying a piano produces
music.” Although the theological interpretation may differ, this “hardwire” has been born out by the investigations
of scientists who have been exploring what physically occurs in the brain during a religious or mystical experience. It bears repeating that this does not necessarily mean that religious/mystical experience
is a function of the brain only. These experiments have only shown that certain images and/or perceptions
associated with religious experience can be brought out by artificially stimulating certain regions of the brain.
However, these images ( such as angels or saints ) and perceptions ( a oneness with the universe) do not on
their own constitute all the essential elements of a complete religious/mystical experience.

One of the main purposes of the research on kundalini is to provide a theoretical basis for individuals interested
in or in the process of having mystical related or consciousness expanding experiences. This should
provide a framework into which the individual can integrate their experience and offer guidelines that will help
keep the process on a course that will lead to a healthy conclusion.

Much of this research is based on the Eastern esoteric concepts of Kundalini and Prana (the subtle intelligent
life-energy). The concept of Kundalini provides an established and time-tested model with which we can
measure and judge our own as well as the experiences of others. Information about Prana is key to understanding
and interpreting consciousness expanding experiences. In addition to this, the lives and writings of
mystics and geniuses provide examples of what to do and what not to do when in the throes of an expanding
consciousness. They also provide an indication of the state of consciousness to which the entire Race is
evolving. This does not degrade or diminish the role of the average person. For each of us has an important
role to play in this life. We must always remember that human consciousness is experienced on a continuum
and each individual’s brain is its own laboratory. And, in this sense, each and every one of us has an opportunity
to observe the changes occurring in our own consciousness and add to humanity’s understanding of the
process.
